ABOUT
Is restoring the planet becoming women’s work? Statistics show that female participation in Earth restoration is significantly higher than males across the world (data on other representations of gender is not yet widely available). We would like to develop a deeper understanding as to why and how this disparity has arisen, opening lines of explorative enquiry. We would like to discover if there is a new road we can take together, a united and balanced one, as we enter times of unprecedented challenge and renewal. Land Art Agency & Collective is an International platform, existing to Restore the Earth through the Arts and 75% of our followers are female (instagram does not offer data on other genders). We feel compelled, along with many of our audience, to ask why? This talk is where we will delve in to possible answers and see where they lead…

“A lot of the problems have historically been created more by men, because they have more power, but it sometimes seems that women are getting more desperate about trying to solve them – and maybe have less power to do it.” Dr Rachel Howell
“The highest-profile climate campaigners in the world today are two young women: Greta Thunberg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Those shouting them down are primarily older conservative men.” Elle Hunt, The Guardian
To impactfully extend our listening beyond human voices, to all beings we share the Earth with, we must listen with as diverse a human cohort as is possible. How do we do this? How do we walk together on these new paths and craft new worlds in unison? Women are rising to lead and guide us, but what is the longevity of the collective if it isn't with the support and equal footing of all other genders?
This panel does not look to offer answers, though we certainly welcome them. It is the beginnings to unravelling a complex conundrum: How do we walk forward together - balanced and whole, all voices an equal part of our chorus? We invite you to join us as we explore how we can rehabilitate a united front as we gather to restore the Earth through creative practices.
Meet the Panel
This talk will:
Connect you with an international & local creative cohort
Offer you new ideas & strategies to stay rooted
Explore opportunities for renewal and perspective in your personal and wider worlds
Give you the opportunity to share your thoughts, reflections & practice with others.
& ask:
Whose voices are and are not being heard (human/non-human) ?
How do we develop our listening skills?
Why are women the majority in climate activism and restoration?
Are women more vulnerable than men to the effects of climate crises?
What could this mean for our collective futures/for families/for community/for you/for us?
