How to Create

with Fragments & Waste

Join artist Louise Frances Smith to use ‘waste materials’ to make collages using visible mending and repair techniques.

Through researching how to make her practice more sustainable, a big theme that arose was waste. In this workshop we will look at ways you can use fragments and waste from your own making processes and artistic practices (yes, all those ‘bits’ you’ve collected but not quite sure what to do with!) to make new pieces of work in both 2D and 3D.

Louise Frances Smith

Louise Frances Smith is an artist living and working in Margate, Kent. Louise’s practice spans sculpture, installation and works on paper. Working with an array of materials including clay, seaweed and bioplastic, Louise creates highly textured surfaces to bring attention to the patterns and textures created by nature, magnifying micro details alongside man-made interventions. By collecting materials from her local coastline to use as materials in her work, Louise’s works are conceptually and physically linked to her local landscape where she takes her inspiration.
