The Land Narratives Study Group is a uniquely meaningful opportunity to develop your project based practice, to share insights, questions and explorations with a peer group who all share a common preoccupation. From the first steps of research, through to presenting a completed photographic series, the Land Narratives Study Group provides a supportive and constructive framework within which to be inspired, encouraged, supported, and in which to exchange, learn and create.

Session Content

Are you in the early stages of beginning a photographic project about an environmental, conservation or land based subject? Do you seek the structure and support of a guided study group to help make your project a reality? Do you seek a peer group to exchange insights with and be inspired by?

The Land Narratives Study Group is led by award-winning documentary photographer, Photo Scratch founder and picture editor Hanna-Katrina Jedrosz who guides the process of developing individual projects with participants, over four core sessions plus a one-to-one mentoring session.

The format follows four 2 hour long sessions, with a combination of tasks and exercises proposed to complete between meetings. The group meetings provide opportunity for conversations, exchanges and rigorous feedback to occur. The individual mentoring meeting creates space to explore deeply the personal blocks or challenges you face in relation to your work, whether it’s working on sequencing and editing, artist statements, funding applications or an overview of how the project fits into your wider arc of work.

As a participant you will come prepared with an idea, question or angle for a photographic narrative you wish to explore, with an environmental, conservation or land based theme. You will be invited to engage with each other’s work in a constructive and supportive way.

Workshop Feedback

“It has proved invaluable and has brought insights and confidence to my work. The energy of the group was really lovely and I felt comfortable to share my ideas in an open way. Over the weeks we built some really positive relationships and it was wonderful to connect with people based in different countries. Hanna-Katrina led the group exceptionally well and the addition of a one-to-one was super helpful.”

David

“Very interesting to see the work of people evolving. Hanna-Katrina is a welcoming, thoughtful and inclusive convenor.”

Dimitris

“I loved that we were all doing such different work and yet we all had similar motivations and everyone seemed up for trying something new.”

Clare

“I really enjoyed it! It was a pleasure to meet new people who care about the same topics, and I thought the facilitator was extremely knowledgeable. I also enjoyed the pacing. It gave us time to see everyone's work and thinking develop. I wish it was longer, but I think that just means I should take it again!”
